Starting from the hamlet of Whaw this walk in one of Yorkshire’s least known valleys combines moorland, miners’ tracks and field paths. You will pass under towering cliffs, follow
cascading streams, see a hall, pass through a town and maybe recognise a well know ford!

A walk rich in industrial and religious heritage. We walk up Gunnerside Gill past relics of the bygone lead mining industry, then cross bleak moorland to Old Gang and on to Surrender Bridge. From
there we cross to the almost deserted hamlet of Blades and follow the escarpment westward back to Gunnerside.

A lovely walk of contrasts, starting at Reeth and following Arkle Beck to Arkle Town through meadowland. We then walk steeply up to Fore Gill Gate and back along the side of Calver on moorland
tracks, with beautiful views of Swaledale.

Leave Nuns Close car park at 9.45am to drive to Leyburn Railway Station to catch the 10.29am train to Redmire and walk back

Wensleydale railway (opened in 1878 and closed to passenger traffic in 1954) formed a link between the East Coast and Settle to Carlisle lines. The line was re-opened in 2003 as far as Redmire in the
heart of Wensleydale. We walk from there back to the start through some outstanding scenery.
