In 2010, Karen Skeel set out to walk Wainwright's Coast to Coast with her partner, Neil. By the time they reached Robin Hood’s Bay, they had no idea the journey was only just beginning. Captivated by the quiet beauty of Keld, they returned the following year to view a 300-year-old farmhouse, abandoned for over a century and accessible only by 4x4. A few months later, they had swapped their old life for a new one, creating Frith Lodge B&B at the halfway point of the route.
Drawing on her book, Coast to Coast and Halfway Between, Karen shares the extraordinary story behind that decision, the challenges of bringing the farmhouse back to life, and the often hilarious realities of life at the halfway point of England’s newest National Trail. From renovation mishaps and breakfast dramas to unforgettable walkers, unexpected friendships and the occasional hospitality horror, this illustrated talk is a warm, humorous and heartfelt celebration of the Coast to Coast and the remarkable people it brings together.
